Whetstone Baptist Church

FEATURE PROJECT

The Whetstone Baptist Church community members and staff commissioned The Garden Room Construction in 2015. Our team were tasked with creating a new Baptist Church building focussed on the worship space, with the multi functional internal street forming the welcoming heart of the building from which all other areas and activities are accessed.

Overview

Able to hold between 450 – 500 people as a dedicated facility for the church and also available to the wider community for external use where appropriate. The building also includes sanitary accommodation appropriate to the uses of the premises, and ancillary facilities such as plant rooms and storage. The first floor is accessed by both staircases and a full lift to enable accessibility to persons of all physical abilities.

Whetstone History

There have beeb Baptists worshipping in Whetstone since as early as the 1600’s. The present church building was opened in 1909 and today sees thriving church with a congregation of over 300 adults drawn from Whetstone and other surrounding villages. Approximately 10 years ago they realised that the current buildings could no longer accommodate the growing numbers of worshippers.

THE MISSION

Through church meetings and consultations the decision was made to purchase a piece of land on which to build a new church. The purchase was completed in early 2013. Through vast discussions and church community involvement they worked with architects to design a building that would meet the needs of the church and be sustainable longterm.
